Serrated flange nuts are a hex nut with a large oversized base flaring out at the bottom of the nut. The bearing surface has serrations which displace material on the mating surface when the nut is wrenched into place.
Serrated flange nuts require a greater amount of torque to loosen the nut than to tighten the nut. The flange provides and more uniform bearing stress to clamp force ratio than other styles of nuts. This type of lock nut will not gall threads.
Grade 2 is a low carbon steel which conforms to strict chemical composition requirements. This is an industrial purpose grade and your everyday bolt and screw specification.
Zinc is relatively economical and offers good corrosion resistance in environments not subject to excessive moisture. A clear or blueish chromate finish is applied on top of the zinc to provide additional protection against oxidation.
An internally threaded fastener that is almost always used with an externally threaded screw, rod, or bolt made of the same or similar material.
