The HC-05 is a Bluetooth 2.0 serial transceiver module that adds wireless UART communication to your Arduino or microcontroller projects. It works as a transparent serial bridge -- data sent over the serial connection comes out via Bluetooth, and vice versa. It can operate as either a master or slave device, configurable via simple AT commands.

⚠️ Important: The HC-05's RX data pin is NOT 5V tolerant. You must use a voltage divider (1 kΩ + 2 kΩ) on the RX pin when connecting to a 5V Arduino. Connecting 5V directly to the RX pin can permanently damage the module. The breakout board can be powered from 3.6V to 6V, but the data pins operate at 3.3V logic. Not compatible with iOS -- the HC-05 uses Bluetooth Classic (SPP), which iPhones/iPads do not support for third-party apps.🔧 How It Works

The HC-05 acts as a wireless serial (UART) bridge -- it replaces a wired serial connection with a Bluetooth link
In Slave mode (default), it waits for another device (phone, computer, or master module) to connect to it
In Master mode, it actively initiates a connection to a specific slave device -- ideal for linking two Arduinos wirelessly
Configuration is done via AT commands sent over the serial connection in AT command mode (38400 baud)

💡 Tip: Use SoftwareSerial on pins D2/D3 -- don't connect the HC-05 to Arduino pins 0 and 1 (hardware serial), as these are needed for sketch uploads and the Serial Monitor. The LED blink pattern tells you the module's state: rapid blinking = not connected, two quick blinks then pause = connected, slow blinking = AT command mode.⚠️ Important Notes

RX Pin is NOT 5V Tolerant: Always use a voltage divider (1 kΩ + 2 kΩ) when connecting to a 5V Arduino -- 5V will damage the module
Not Compatible with iOS: Uses Bluetooth Classic (SPP), not supported by iPhones/iPads -- use HM-10 or ESP32 for iOS
Not Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE): Cannot communicate with BLE-only devices
