Beebe Indelible Check Protector is a rare antique mechanical office machine from the late 19th century designed to prevent check fraud.

Patented by Gaylord Beebe between 1896 and 1897 in Minneapolis, Minn. Unlike basic hand punches that only indented paper, the Beebe machine macerated or crinkled the paper fibers under the numerical text while simultaneously forcing indelible acid-proof ink deep into the paper.

This process made it nearly impossible for fraudsters to chemically wash or physically "raise" (alter) the written numerical amount on bank drafts and checks. Built from heavy cast iron and sheet steel, packed with intricate internal gears and an ornate manual mechanism.
